As a global affairs major, you’ll get the skills you need to tackle the world’s most complex problems. Through real-world examples, simulations like Model United Nations and hands-on research, you’ll gain a deeper understanding of how global decision-making works. You’ll also learn to think across cultures and disciplines and become comfortable explaining big ideas clearly and confidently.

You’ll learn from distinguished faculty who conduct cutting-edge, globally focused research from multiple fields. You’ll also have a wide range of opportunities to study abroad or work in the field through internships and our nationally recognized co-op program. Mason is located in the heart of America’s most dynamic international city, giving you direct access to cultural, academic and professional resources that will help you prepare for a successful career in today’s global economy.

Global studies students are highly sought after by employers in fields as diverse as education, law, business, public policy and media. Some of our recent alumni have gone on to careers in international organizations, the foreign service, government and nonprofits. Others have found success as journalists, researchers and educators.

Students who are interested in the major must apply during the fall of their sophomore year and take introductory economics, political science and history courses as well as GLBL 2121 and a course with the Qualitative Methods attribute (GLBL 4500). Students may fulfill their L4 language requirement through the Intensive Language Study Program or by completing a senior project or a senior essay in GLBL 4499, the senior capstone class.
