A front-page article is a story that is published on the first page of a newspaper, in a prominent position and often with a large headline. The front page typically also teases stories that are inside the paper, and it is designed to capture attention, ideally in order to sell copies. A front-page story might be a national story or it may be local news.
In 2014, three anonymous Jane Does who were sex trafficked as minors sued Backpage in federal court, alleging that their traffickers used the website to post ads for sex services. They claimed that Backpage’s business and editorial practices, as well as the design of its website, facilitated sex trafficking, but a federal court ruled that these activities did not fall under CDA Section 230 protection. In August 2013, a federal judge enjoined a New Jersey law that aimed to legislate Backpage out of existence, finding it to be “hopelessly vague” and overbroad and to chill protected speech.
